my evil ant

my evil ant is like evry ant

I arrived!

The plane was almost 3 hours late, but I arrived eventually. I'm waiting for my bag to arrive now. I hope they haven't lost it!

My Scanner Daybook - April 4th

Does winning the lottery count as a project? Lol.
Well, I'm trying to imagine what I would do if I did win the lottery.

I think I'd stop working the very same day.
Pay back some or all of my mortgage (depending on how much I'd won).
Go travelling. Maybe a couple of months. Pick one or two countries I want to see - Australia and New Zealand so I could squeeze in some time with my family and give them some cash ;) - rent a car, stay in nice B&Bs. Go sailing, snorkelling, trekking, take loads of pictures.

When I get back, I'd probably want to follow some interesting courses - lots of psychology, some marine biology, a few arts & crafts classes. I'd check out local art exhibitions, maybe invest in a few pieces, decorate my home.

If I really won a lot of money, I'd look into investing it by buying a couple of apartments, fixing them up and renting them out.

I'd get someone in to redo all the electricity in our place and fix all the things that are driving me wild - leaky sinks, half-finished electric jobs, doors that don't shut properly. I wouldn't do it myself, though... years of living with a DIY dad who lived in a permanent building site make me cringe at the thought of working on my own place.

I'd like to try some new activities - horse riding, hang-gliding, try to get my diving certificate again - hopefully my ears will allow it this time.

Once a week I'd get a great massage and get pampered - I'm really bad at taking care of myself, so I'd pay someone super professional to do it for me, lol.

We'd go out for cooking classes in the evenings, or to the theatre. And I'd be on the lookout for residential weekends where you can learn a new skill - massage, screenplay writing, sailing.

Eventually, I'd want to find a job, but not full-time. Maybe 3 days a week giving trainings, and a few hours volunteer counselling.

I'd obviously be planning the next holidays, maybe Mexico or Vietnam.

After a while, we might decide to sell the apartment and move to New Zealand, where I can be closer to my family. We could buy a big house there and start a B&B. I would make the website and advertise on sites targeting the British and Belgian markets, offering a "home away from home". It would be on the beach, walking distance from a small town.

Wow, just did a quick search and came across this place for sale. It would definitely do the job:

I might like to get a dog (big dog, hate those small yapping ones!) and maybe a horse.
I'd also love to have a small boat and take people out for a tour of the area. Maybe go fishing.
I could teach French in a local school for adults, I'd create a really fun class, with loads of interesting exercises. And on the last day of the semester we'd watch a good French movie and eat croissants.

I'd want to be very active, go jogging on the beach every morning - that's what the dog's for! - and I'd love to take yoga classes again and maybe become a teacher.

Aidan's blog

My 8 year old nephew Aidan will arrive in Brussels tomorrow evening.
I'm going to use this blog to record his trip and upload pictures.
I hope we'll have fun!!!

This is a picture of us from a few years ago:

Isn't he cute??? Of course, he's almost 4 years older now, and much bigger :)

I've already planned some stuff: a trip to Disneyland (I'm looking forward to that at least as much as he is!!!) and to Technopolis in Mechelen. Lots more stuff to plan to keep him busy!

Something positive

There's no place like home.

Not right now

In a bit of a bad place right now, or at least not one where I feel like making plans or working on any kind of project.

I had a splitting headache all day, probably my own fault due to bad wine I had last night.

I want to whine. Bitch about life. How I'm so angry at myself for not being able to see clearly and pull things together. How I want to get away from it all but realise there's nowhere to run when you're trying to escape yourself.

It's such a contradiction. I want to do so many things, and at the same time I don't have the courage or the energy to do any of them.

My head is a constant muddle of thoughts, yet nothing actually seems to go from thought to action.

And at the same time I know I would be happier if I would just:
- quit my job
- live abroad, in a house by the sea
- take up painting and horse riding
- go rock climbing or cave exploring
- get a cat
- sell everything I own and buy new clothes
- eat healthily and drink water

Still doesn't answer the question of how I'd actually earn a living, and nothing seems appealing at all for that purpose.

Maybe I should put my life up for sale on Ebay and live off that for a while.

Bored out of my mind

Yes, that is definitely the feeling.
And yet I have a "to do" list at least 3 pages long. But it's all so tedious. Budgets, invoices, plannings, call reports, briefings... it's like all the administrative nitty-gritty of the past 3 months has agglomerated (like a fluff ball that slowly forms under your bed) and has now landed on my desk with a dull thud.

Of course, the fact I've been putting off doing all these meaningless chores for weeks would explain a lot.

And when I really hate doing something, because it's just so damn stupid, repetitive and tedious, well I procrastinate in the wildest fashion.

I'm on to my 50th game of Hangman today. It's on my new iGoogle homepage. It's addictive.
I wonder if hangman can make invoices? Well, they're not making themselves, that's for sure. I keep looking to my right, to the papers that have piled up over the weeks, my "to invoice" heap. They look the same now as they did this morning. I really need to face up to the fact that if I don't actually pick them up and sort through them, they'll still be there tomorrow. Ugh. Ugh. Ugh.

My mind is protesting at the absolute idiocy of the tasks in front of me.

Today's another day

And then there's the stuff life throws your way

Like a rat let loose on your million-piece domino set, or a gust of wind just when you'd finished sorting through and classifying hundreds of papers...

Divorce, death, infidelity have all come along and upset the fragile order of things in my life. I guess it's life's way of reminding you you can't control everything.

Nothing as dramatic this time. Just a little bit of bad news: my latest pap test came back positive for abnormal cells, so I'll be getting a biopsy next week. I already know I have the HPV strain that causes cervical cancer, so no surprise there. And it's usually a simple and effective procedure to remove the unwanted cells. So I'm not really expecting any huge disruptions. Just a reminder...

My reward

Learning about something new
Discovering how something works, the ins and outs
Collecting and recouping information, going from one source to another
Forming the bigger picture
Learning as I create

Once I have the big picture, the rest is just filling in the details... boring.
